PodTech:The King of Blogging Speaks
February 4, 2007New Year Resolutions
January 30, 2007Well, as they say, better late than ever. I am going to keep it simple: lose weight, blog more and keep in touch with friends a little better than I did last year. Not necessarily in that order, though. Upon deep reflection, I think it is important to make resolutions rather than give up on them. And what better day to do it than the penultimate day in January?
Just came back from Bangalore. No, the past ain’t what it used to be.
It’s not only the name that’s changing – Bangalore to Bengalooru. Gone are the days when I would take leisurely walks in Jayanagar, the traffic is so terrible that many folks take an autorickshaw to cross over to the other side of the road. As for me, I stayed at home and watched TV or chatted with friends, many of whom have returned from the Bay Area to Bangalore(B2B, as the joke goes). Bangalore is still quite the media darling, judging by the articles that get written about it. Of course, many rivals claim that the boomtown blues have hit and that action is shifting elsewhere. The latest is Odicheruvu, the Andhra Science city.
Anyway, back to my resolutions. Uma has a lovely blog post on her thoughts about New Year Resolutions. It’s called Make You Own Uncool, it’s a quote derived from a letter written by artist Sol LeWitt to Eva Hesse in April of 1965. It basically encourages one not to worry about cool, but to make your own uncool. Nice one, Uma.
Life is Short. So?
December 2, 2006“The moments when you attain a goal and realize true perfection probably account for less than 2 percent of your lifetime, while the process of living and working toward your goals occupies the rest. If you look to perfection to supply your sense of success, you are discounting the other 98 percent of your life.”

Indians Rule the U.S Startup Arena
November 17, 2006Rediff, an Indian magazine writes:
Indians account for 28 per cent of all foreign-founded private start-up companies in America, according to a first-of-its-kind study, ‘American Made: The Impact of Immigrant Entrepreneurs and Professionals on US Competitiveness.’
The study found that over the past 15 years, immigrants have started 1 in 4 (25 per cent) US public companies that were venture-backed, representing a market capitalisation of more than $500 billion. Moreover, a survey of today’s private, venture-backed start-up companies in the US estimated that 47 per cent have immigrant founders.

Top 5 Ways For Making Inertia Work For me

Making Inertia Work for You
Every body perseveres in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight ahead, except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by forces impressed. [Cohen & Whitman 1999 translation]
I fight inertia. Everyday. Whether it’s going to the gym. Or eating my fruits or veggies instead of that cheesecake that’s beckoning. Or even drinking herbal tea instead of my favorite chocolate mocha topped with whipped cream. Last night vegged out in front of the idiot box, I wondered how I might harness inertia to my advantage.
Here are my Top 5 Ways to Make Inertial Work For Me
1. Everybody is talking about lists these days. Making lists seems a good way to harness inertia in front of the T.V. Take your pick – online lists such 37 Signals’ Ta-Da lists, Remember the Milk or Zoho Planner on your laptop, or just plain paper lists.
2. Folding freshly laundered clothes
3. Cleaning my handbag
4. Paying bills online
5. And here is the best one of all: running on my treadmill while watching T.V.
What now, Karma Capitalism?
November 16, 2006As a Bangalore gal, I cannot help but notice the city’s name is on everyone’s lips these days. Which is somewhat of a mixed blessing. I was somewhat amused to read about Karma Capitalism in a recent edition of Business Week.
As my grandfather would say, Shiva, Shiva!! Or in this case Krishna, Krishna!!
Notes from November
November 4, 2006November in California seems much colder than last year.
And did you know November is National Novel Writing Month(NaNoWriMo, for short)? Speaking of which I found this really interesting blog by Nancy Friedman, with an interesting post titled Novel Ideas.
